Lithuania

The climate of country is transitional between the maritime type of western Europe and the continental type found farther east. As a result, damp air masses of Atlantic origin predominate, alternating with continental Eurasian and, more rarely, colder Arctic air or air with a southern, tropical origin.

Summer is warm with relatively mild weather in spring and autumn. Winter, which lasts from November to mid-March, can be very cold.

The mean temperature for January, the coldest month, is -4.8° C, while July, the warmest month, has an average temperature of 17.2° C.

Rainfall is distributed throughout the year with the heaviest rainfall in August. Average annual rainfall is 800 millimetres, diminishing inland. Rainfall reaches a peak in August, except in the maritime strip, where the maximum is reached two to three months later. Heavy snowfalls are common in the winter months.
